What about Pamela?

After our discussion in class regarding is Pamela got anything she "wanted" out of the situation I starting thinking more about the answer as I finished reading Pamela. I think some of us were very focused on the feminist stance that a man marrying a woman in this time period meant she belonged to him and that was unacceptable to us. Still others brought up the fact that because Pamela had money now did not mean that she gained anything because she did not care about the money. I came to the conclusion that Pamela was adamant about keeping her virtue above all else. Because she did this, she was rewarded with getting to keep her virtue through marriage. Had she let her virtue go she could have been "ruined" by Mr. B with no prospects of marriage or work. She could have ended up married off to one of Mr. B's servants and had to live as his mistress until he was done with her. The fact that she got the ultimate contract of marriage and fidelity from Mr. B is her reward for resisting attempts by him to take her virtue.
