I am still very intrigued by Satan as a character. I think we had a really good discussion about it on Monday. I kind of took up a big part of the discussion because I was conflicted by the way he is portrayed as well as God too. When I think of a typical Puritanical Christian I think of structure, morality, and self righteousness. I suppose with all of that combined it would be hard for me to think the people during Milton's time would be okay with him comparing a human to God. I understand why he did it. The allegory of Charles II as a tyrannical leader like the Old Testament God is rather brilliant. In terms of morality and righteous driven Puritanical Christians, it is weird for me to think that they would agree with me.
Satan seems to win a couple victories against God. He tricks both of God's prize creations to eat from the Tree of Knowledge. He also wins the territory of Hell in a way as well. He becomes the Prince of Darkness and Lies, which may not exactly be the greatest title ever, but it is a victory nonetheless. This could go back to Satan and his followers being a representation of the revolution leaders in England. They may not win completely, but they do get a few small victories here and there.
